Here are a few pictures of a project for Chris Harris, a devoted fixed gear mountain bike. A few months after getting the frame he called me and asked if I’d be willing to build a fork around the Surly Large Marge rim, with their Endomorph 4.0 tire. "Hell yes!" I told him. The circumference of the 26" X 4.0 is nearly identical to that of a 29er 2.3" tire, so geometrically it wouldn’t really affect the ride too negatively. I built this absurd fork with as much elegance as I could muster. I think the bike turned out looking fantastic. You can’t beat the simplicity of it. And Chris called me after getting it all built to tell me that he loves the ride. He's pictured here coming down some pretty technical looking stuff for a fixed bike, and he says it does all right. To be honest, I'm envious. At least, I want to take this bike for a few rides and see what it’s all about.
